Assessments
Formative Assessments
Weekly Reflections: Students will be tasked with reflecting on the week's work. The students will write about what they found interesting, what questions they have, and how what they learned will be utilized in their final projects. They will use the Blackboard discussion area and offer feedback to each other. They also have the option to submit video responses. This could resemble behind-the-scenes videos. Reflections Rubric.
EDpuzzle Video: Students will select a scene (under 5 mins) from one of their favorite movies and add at least five comments on the video that relate to aesthetics or story using EDpuzzle). The can choose to add a question on the video, but it's not required. This will then be shared via Blackboard and take the place of the weekly discussion (comment on other's videos). Students will be shown this Example video. This will be graded from the EDpuzzle rubric.
Video Aesthetics Presentation (group project): Students will use embedded video segments in Google Slides to show various styles/types of videos. Students will share their presentation with others and give/receive feedback (via Blackboard). The students will then create a rubric for documentary style videos (using Quick Rubric). The rubric should list characteristics of high-quality documentaries (this will also be used to self-assess their final project and give other groups scores).
Production Concept/Mind Map: Each group will create a concept/mind map for each stage of production in their project. This will be their production plan. The map will list each group member, their responsibilities for each stage of production, and the details and major tasks of each stage. This will keep the students on track and on schedule. The students can use any concept/mind mapping software of their choice, but will be encouraged to use the LucidChart software that's integrated into Google Drive.
Summative Assessments
My Town Mini-Documentary: This is the final video project the each group will create. This will be a culmination of everything they've learned in the project and will be premiered at the Save the World event at the school. The students will assess every video (including their own) with the rubrics each group created. These rubrics/scores will be discussed in the next class. The instructor will give each student a final grade for the mini-documentary using the My Town Video Rubric.
